National Fossil Day 2022
Celebrate National Fossil Day at the Falls of the Ohio State Park with a series of special fossil bed hikes, reduced admission to the Interpretive Center Museum, guides on the collecting piles, children’s activities and more!!!
Activity Schedule

- 10:00 – 11:30 Fishing for fossils at Fisherman’s Point Join the park naturalist as we explore the fossil beds at Fisherman’s Point. We will look for snails, crinoids and look at some of the largest corals on the fossil beds. Bring a deck broom and a bucket to help us expose some cool fossils.
- 1:00 – 2:30 A Really Big Fossil Hike Join the park naturalist as we seek out the biggest fossils on the fossil beds, including a 50-foot long branching coral, a 15-foot wide honeycomb coral, 4-foot long horn coral and more!
- 3:00 – 4:oo Hike to the Dam Look for fossils in a part of the fossil bed we don’t explore as often.
- 10:00 – 3:30 Collecting Pile Exploration Guides will help you find fossils and minerals on the collecting piles. Free ID sheets.
- 10:00 – noon The History of Teeth Stan Dunn, DMD and park volunteer will have a display of different types of fossil teeth and an activity for children to win a fossil shark tooth.
- 10:00 – 4:00 Arts & Crafts Make and take arts and crafts with a paleontology theme.
